Here's how we made our half-half epoxy and acrylic resin marbled trinket trays. You can follow our instructions whilst substituting the colours or using your own mould!
Materials required, all products can be purchased at poethan.com.au
- Poethan Acrylic Resin
- Aldax Crystal Cast Epoxy Resin
- Alcohol Inks
- Metallic Lumiere
- Acrylic Resin Pigment
- Oval Trinket Tray Mould
- Silicone mixing cup
- Silicone mixing stick
Step 1. Acrylic Resin (Jesmonite Alternative)
- Mix the Acrylic Resin Liquid and Powder together. Use the calculator to calculate the required amount you need for your mould. Instructions on using Acrylic Resin can be found here.
- Add a couple drops of your desired pigment. Using Acrylic Resin pigments will give the best result and using Lumiere paint will give you a metallic effect.
- Give a soft stir of the mixed Acrylic Resin to move the pigment around, don't stir too much as it'll start blending with the Acrylic Resin.
- Pour the Acrylic Resin into the mould. I like to pour in small circles to give a marbled look.
- Tap the mould to release any bubbles.
- Allow the Acrylic Resin to set, but not for too long as it'll be difficult to snap. The longer you allow the Acrylic Resin to set, the harder it becomes to snap.
- Once the Acrylic Resin has set, snap it in half!
- Allow the Acrylic Resin to continue setting for at least 3 hours.
Step 2. Epoxy Resin
- Mix the required amount of epoxy resin. If you are using Aldax Crystal Cast, you can use the calculator. Mix well.
- Add Pinata Alcohol Inks until you acheive the desired colour.
- Insert one half of the Acrylic Resin part into the mould.
- Add the epoxy resin to the second half
- Wait for the epoxy resin to set.
- Demould and your done!
- If the bottom has sharp edges, carefully use sand paper to soften them.
